English says “I came and ate”. Tamil turns every action except the last into a joining form (the verbal participle): வந்து சாப்பிட்டேன். The same form, with கொண்டிரு, makes “is doing”.
வா → வந்துjoining form: “…and”
சாப்பிடு → சாப்பிட்டுjoining form: “…and”
தூங்கு → தூங்கினேன்Before (past)
நான் வந்து சாப்பிட்டுத் தூங்கினேன்.I came, ate and slept.
Doing it right now
நான் படித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்.I am reading.After a joining form ending in இ, ய், or a doubled hard sound, க doubles: க்கொண்டிரு.
